The October 2009 edition of the
Ensign magazine includes an article with tips for Latter-day Saints who are using the Internet to help others understand more clearly the Church’s teachings, and the faith of its members.
On several occasions senior Church leader Elder M. Russell Ballard has
encouraged Latter-day Saints to use new media to clarify the Church’s beliefs and describe the experiences of its members.
According to the Church’s director of public affairs in the Pacific Area, Richard Hunter, there are several Latter-day Saints in New Zealand, Australia and other parts of the Pacific who are starting to use YouTube, blogs and other new media to help others understand the Church more accurately.
“When we communicate with videos, blogs or with other web-based tools, we have the opportunity to help others see the Church for what it really is, and its members for who they really are,” he said.
Members are invited to send links to their Church-related YouTube videos, blogs and other websites to the country websites’ editors via the feedback feature on the sites’ home pages. Some of these member-generated sites and videos will be highlighted on this and other Church sites from time to time.
